How are sports betting odds determined?

Bookmakers draw up the sports betting odds in relation to what is likely to happen at a sports event. The lowest rates are linked with the likeliest result, so there will be a lower payout if for example the higher ranked player or team wins against the underdog. Increasing the odds against a sports team means the bookies think that team is less likely to win, so if a punter bets on an outsider the punter will recoup more money if their bet triumphs. The appeal of sports betting is that a punter can gamble on anything, from the final score a golfer posts through to the number of penalties awarded in a football game. By shopping around a punter can find what online odds are the best on the market for the sporting spectacle they want to gamble on.
